Maintenance / repairs to the bike
  • Apart from losing the brakes for a short period of time when they overheated after neotiating Lynmouth Gorge and Porlock Hill, the bike behaved impeccably with no repairs being needed during the trip.  Only the odometer cable snapped towards the end of the trip and needs replacing.
  • However, since arriving home, I have had to replace both tyres, brake pads and rear light bulb in order to get the bike through its MoT.
Money raised so far
I has set a target of raising £500 for the Alzheimer's Society and am pleased to say that this target has been exceeded and the amount raised so far currently stands at £630.    I know there are some out there who are planning to donate but just have not got round to it yet and you will be relieved to hear that you can still donate at this time by clicking the link to my Justgiving web page !

Not quite the last day afterall

Lovely weather today made for a nice days riding. Unfortunately the relaxed pace has meant me not finishing today.  So I expect to get home around lunchtime tomorrow.
Stopping the night in Hove with Andy.

Eastbourne Pier

Hastings

The pier had seen better times

Leaving Dover

Deal

Start of the cinque ports

White cliffs

Must mean I am on the South Coast!

Day 13

Can't believe it has been nearly two weeks since I set off.  Unconfirmed mileage for the trip so far is 3393 miles so my estimate of 3500 was pretty close.

To all of you who plan to donate but have not got round to it yet, please do donate. The link is WWW.justgiving.com/czes

Forgetting to remember is in bad taste!!

Margate

Have taken Lenny's advise and checked in to a Premier Inn.  Initial observations about the place (Margate that is) is that it appears to be deserted and a bit of a dump!

Whitstable

Been a bit too ambitious about how far I could ride these last couple of days.  Have had to take the faster roads from Lowestoft to here which has been a bit of a pain ... in more ways than one.  Still not too long now till Margate!  Wonder if I will be able to find a pub playing 'Czes & Dave' !

Sea view

Cromer

The sea!

Today I shall be mostly drinking tea

Who needs sat nav ... traditional route planning over a cup of tea!

Accident in a spaghetti factory

Fantasy island - Skegness

Day 12 - Last full day

Have just had some breakfast and am contemplating the day ahead.  Another big ride which should hopefully see me end up in Margate later on this afternoon.  Really ought to get a move on .... but maybe just one more cup of tea before I pack the bike up!

Dinner

Have opted to eat Chinese tonight as it is the nearest to the b&b.  Am the only person .... not sure if I should be worried or not.
Sampling Tsingtao Chinese beet tonight.

Reached Mablethorpe

Have finally found somewhere to stop for the night .... knackered. Covered approx 377 miles today.  Off to get something to eat now.

The Humber Bridge

On the road to Whitby

Redcar

The seafront at Redcar.  Somewhat behind schedule.  Getting through Sunderland was a nightmare.

On the road to Sunderland

Bit lost!

On the road to Bamburgh

Border Crossing

Leaving Scotland just before Berwick

Musselburgh

Back on track after yesterday's stop in Melrose.  Lovely seeing you and thanks for putting me up xx.

Day 11

Slow start to the day will mean a late finish tonight!

Day 10

Now that we have gone metric, day 10 is the new day of rest.
For those interested, distance covered yesterday was 288 miles.

Burts Hotel

Went to see my brother's play "Time for the Good Looking Boy" that was being performed in the Wynd theatre Melrose last night before the play starts its run at the Edinburgh festival.
After the play, my brother, the actor and the lighting engineer had a Q&A  session with the audience.

Then we retired to the Burt's Hotel where the picture of me, my brother and little sister was taken.

Sampled the local beer!

Leith

Have entered the Kingdom of Fife

Managed to get through Dundee despite the best efforts of some complete t*ss*r in a BMW trying to run me off the road.  View of Dundee from the other side of the river Tay.

The road to Arbroath

Helped through the traffic chaos in Aberdeen by a local in a big BMW GS.  Cheers to whoever you were!

Leaving Cullen.  The sun from last night has disappeared to be replaced with gloom.
And there appears to be a liitle 'moisture' in the air.
